Language Arts
The early childhood program is an enriching environment for language development. There are many opportunities for the children to express themselves in a variety of areas. We create an atmosphere in which children feel safe and comfortable taking risks by expressing themselves, sharing ideas, and exploring new words and phases. The children explore the Ready Readers literacy curriculum by using predictable picture books that the children can “read” for themselves. We read great books, both fiction and non-fiction, to which the children enthusiastically and actively respond. The children are exposed to an abundance of written language in the classroom. During discussions and descriptions time, the children can listen and respond to classroom activities and discussions, retrieve and expand vocabulary, and verbally express their thoughts, ideas, questions, and concerns to the group.
