Mathematics

Math is everywhere! The ability to comprehend basic mathematical concepts is important as children strive to understand the complex world around them. Students explore many mathematical concepts, including: the calendar, numbers, patterns, shapes, sorting, classification, measurement, estimation, addition, and subtraction. Each week the children are introduced to a series of different types of math explorations with specific skill objectives that accompany the ongoing theme, e.g., patterning a quilt during “Q” week, sorting and matching community helper activity cards, classifying apples in the fall, or estimating numbers of grapes while discussing food groups. All activities are presented in game form making it fun for the children to play. Vital connections are made using this approach; the children are encouraged to explore each math concept in a way that they can understand and can discover new and exciting conclusions!
