In the Lower School, language arts is the cornerstone of our program. Each classroom uses a combination of phonics study, phoneme study, cross-curricular fine literature, and varying exceptional programs to help each child achieve mastery in reading, writing, spelling, and speaking. Some of the programs we use include, Project Read, Open Court, Wordly Wise, and other nationally acclaimed programs to fit the learning styles and needs of each child. Our language arts programs celebrate each child as an interested and actively learning reader and writer, and we use many different inclusive activities to reinforce each lesson. Many programs are individualized to support new learning and to enrich our many accelerated learners. Students are not only being exposed to the finest fiction and non-fiction work available, they are being encouraged to journal, interact cooperatively with peers, and to enjoy the adventure and independence good communication brings to their world.
