Mathematics
Students explore mathematics at a level that is challenging with the ultimate goal of allowing all students to enjoy the study of mathematical concepts. The sixth grade course, Transformations is the final year of the university of Chicago math program, which begins in the first grade. Pre-Algebra, an in-depth course that emphasizes both fundamental mathematical skills and a true understanding of manipulating equations with variables follows.
Next comes Algebra One, a high-school level course that requires students to think algebraically, a problem solving skill that students will use for years after completion of the course. Finally, students are challenged to create and support logical arguments in Geometry, a course that teaches both deductive and inductive reasoning through the use of geometric proof. For students who are ready for additional challenges, Pine Cobble also teaches Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
