French
Students who complete all four years of Upper School French typically earn the equivalent of three high school language credits. The sixth and seventh grades combine to form French 1, while French 2 and French 3 are offered in the eighth and ninth grade years, respectively. Students learn to discuss topics such as personal description, weekend plans, shopping and eating out, free time and entertainment, sports and daily life, home, fashion, vacations and driving. There is a focus throughout Upper School French on grammar – an essential part of any language study. They continue to learn about Francophone cultures and work to compare and contrast these with their home culture over the four years. In all Upper School French courses, the teacher creates the specific details of the curriculum by integrating the state standards for Massachusetts, New York and Vermont, which helps ensure success after Pine Cobble.
