When people think back on their Pine Cobble athletic experiences, their time on the slopes or in the rink are some of the fondest memories. We have run our winter programs for many years. Having a child learn to ski or skate with the guidance of another adult can often be a blessing for a parent. We have been teachers of these important life sports for so many years, and we know how to do it well. Students are able to choose one of the following programs each winter.

Skating

Our skating offerings are two-fold. For the past three years we have built a rink on our own campus and utilize it during physical education classes. We also offer a seven-week program at area rinks – Williams College and the Vietnam Veteran’s Rink in North Adams. Students will skate with adults from our faculty and receive instruction from professionals and/or college ice hockey players. Just strapping up those skates and getting on the ice is the best thing to do initially. Then once students are comfortable with moving on skates, the lessons take on greater meaning. Our students become competent skaters by the end of the program.

Cross Country Skiing

There are few places as beautiful as Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vermont. Each Friday morning for seven weeks, we travel by bus or van to Woodford and ski on the trails of Prospect. Instruction is provided by our teachers and students become solid Nordic skiers by the end of the seven week program.

Downing Skiing/Snowboarding

Over the years, our ski program has been at Brodie Mountain and Jiminy Peak. Now we spend our seven Fridays each winter at Jiminy Peak which offers a wonderful program of lessons from their capable staff with support from our teachers. With snowboarding being such a popular sport with students today, snowboarding lessons are also offered each week. Students spend one hour in lessons and the other 2 1/2 hours each Friday skiing in groups with friends and adults. We have had competitive ski teams in past years. Having such a team is dependent upon the interest of the student body.
