Latin

Students who complete all four years of Upper School Latin typically earn the equivalent of three high school language credits. The sixth and seventh grade years combine to form Latin 1, while Latin 2 and Latin 3 are offered in the eighth and ninth grade years, respectively. All four years are connected through the Cambridge Latin Course. Each vocabulary lesson is reinforced with the study of English word derivation. The course is supplemented by computer lessons using programs like Transparent Language. In the fall, students create models of Roman houses or do projects on Roman life, which are often entered in the annual Pioneer Valley Classical League’s Classics Day. In March, the students participate in the National Latin Exam sponsored by the American Classical League.
